2011 Ambarussa Yuletide Contest

Posted in movies, potc 4 with tags , , , , , , on 7 December, 2011 by ambarussa

It’s that time of the year again.

The traditional Yuletide Contest! And this time you can win

THE FORMIDABLE “PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES” STICKER BOOK!

Stick the stickers in the book. Or stick Jack Sparrow to your windscreen! And Lieutenant Gillette to the wing mirror! Sky is the limit. And because it’s a much-loved tradition, you’ll also get

A SELECTION OF CHOCOLATE

Real chocolate. Not the tasteless factory stuff – chocolate-chocolate. Milk, dark, white, nuts, orange – your choice.

And what do you have to do to win sticker book and chocolate?

Just send an email to

webgnome at ambarussa. net

and answer the following question:

“What mistake has happened regarding Lieutenant Gillette in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides sticker book?”

A) They confused him with Lieutenant Groves

B) They misspelled his name

C) They called him a pirate

It’s never been easier than this year – and in case you’re still in doubt: check here.

IMPORTANT: Please put “Contest” or “Damian O’Hare” in the subject line.

Deadline: 12th December, 2011, noon GMT.

Please read the following rules before you send off your mail.

RULES:

1. By participating in this contest, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted the rules.

2. You have to be at least 16 years old to participate.

3. Please be fair: only send in one mail per person.

4. No cash pay-out of your prize.

5. No correspondence will be held over the outcome of the contest.

6. If you are the winner, you’ll have to provide us with your name and address.

7. We’ll send your prize out asap, but have no influence on postal services.

8. Should, for any reason beyond our control, one of the prizes not be available, we’ll replace it with a different prize of the same value.

9. We accept entries from all over the world. If, however, your country does not allow the import of chocolate, you’ll “only” get the sticker book (sorry about that).

Good luck!

Much care and consideration has gone into the production of this merchandise.

The following merchandise for PotC: OST has landed on my desk. It’s a stickerbook:

It came with the information that “Officer Gilette” (sic) had also made it into the book. And indeed:

Great news! Lt. Gillette on the lid would give my laptop at work a little more credibility than the “I can haz brainz?” zombie sticker that it’s currently sporting, though one could argue that it’s perfectly fitting for our meetings.

Obviously, much care and consideration has gone into the production of this merchandise:

I guess the stickerbook was put together by the same professionals responsible for this masterpiece:

Anyway. If you’d like to buy this spectacular piece of movie memorabilia, you can do so here. Or you’ll just wait for our traditional Yuletide Contest and hope that you’ll win this beauty, among other lovely things.

How Gillette almost escaped to Mexico…

Greg Ellis, aka Lt. Groves in the PotC movies, has given an interview to Jim Hill, which is now available online. He talks about his work on “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” with Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally and Damian O’Hare, and ponders the possibility of Groves’ return in PotC 5 (working title: “Pirates of the Caribbean: Zombies in Uniform”). You can find the interview here:

GREG ELLIS WONDERS IF HIS “PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN” CHARACTER WILL BE RETURNING FOR THE FIFTH FILM IN THIS SERIES

Here’s a small excerpt from the interview:

“And at one point, there was a semi-serious discussion among the actors that we should just keep going. Just sail on in to Mexico and then see how the locals would react as all these pirates and Royal Naval Officers came up on shore.”

I can’t help but feel that an escape of Gillette and Groves to Mexico would have made for a far better movie.

49 screencaps of Damian O’Hare as Lt. Gillette in “Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides”. As Gillette spends most of his limited time in the company of Groves, fans of Greg Ellis will hopefully also find a couple of caps to like.

As always, please feel free to use the caps, credit isn’t necessary, just please don’t hotlink. Cheers!

While the holiday-laundry is gently doing its spins in the washing machine, I have time for a quick update:

I’ve updated the list of reviews for Double Feature. The shows saw their last performances on Saturday, so there won’t be any further updates to that entry.

I’ve added a small gallery for Double Feature.

Now that Double Feature is over – would you like the benches as a souvenir? Or maybe the bar from The Swan?

Not quite finished with Double Feature yet – there will be a contest later this week in connection with the plays.

The Scottish Movie Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has been released on DVD and Blu-ray. Coming to your local  DVD-by-Mail-Service very soon.

In completely different news, Kitaky has sent in fanart: “The Royal meets My Little Pony”. Looks like Dr. Burnett was really deciding his departure on a hoof…!

Recently, in Disneyland…

Aww! Thanks a lot to Corrielle for the photo.

PotC 4: Interview with Greg Ellis

Greg Ellis played Lt. Groves in all “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies. Damian O’Hare is mentioned, and as they worked side by side, this interview gives us a little insight into the work “behind the scenes”.

“We’re boys, and we’re in a pirate movie. What’s not to love? “

Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), Lt. Gillette (Damian O'Hare), Lt. Groves (Greg Ellis) and Mr. Gibbs (Kevin McNally)

Two tips for watching “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”

Posted in potc 4 with tags , , , , , on 18 May, 2011 by ambarussa
  • If you watch the movie in 3D, absolutely try to get seats in the middle of the cinema. The glasses make a dark movie even darker; there were scenes where I had to take them off to see anything at all.
  • Don’t throw pointed objects at the screen. You could hurt a member of the audience.

Geoffrey Rush was a guest on Craig Ferguson’s Late Late show, and promoted Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. A short clip from the movie was shown; Barbossa aboard HMS Providence, holding a motivational speech (though, how effective that will be remains to be seen…)
