Whatever happened to Nick and Marian?

Looks like somewhere on this planet the last season of “The Royal” has made an appearance, and left some viewers confused…

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. We didn’t really get it, either, but I’ll try to answer your questions to my best knowledge.

“Whatever happened to Nick and Marian? Where are they?”

We discussed various scenarios like “they stepped into the Tardis”, but if you listen very carefully, you’ll pick up a short line about Marian and Nick eloping due to looming parenthood. Blink and you missed it; the Royal just gets a new locum and that’s it. Personally, I like the Tardis-version better.

“And what about Bobby? Is he dead?”

I have no idea, there’s not a word about his fate. But if you have friends who don’t even mention your possibly deadly injuries and a love interest who has all but forgotten you the next day, you’re probably better off in Hades.

“The last series ends with a cliffhanger?! Why?”

I can only guess here… ITV didn’t care?

I have no idea what went on behind the scenes of “The Royal”; the axing of a show can put writers under terrible pressure. However, the show – and its loyal fans – would have deserved a more dignified treatment. Just remember the good times, and write your own happy endings.
